Hedera 'Hibernica' is one of the most commonly used hedge plants. It is an Irish ivy and grows best in a shade or partial shade. This species grows very fast, which is a huge advantage, because the hedge is completely closed within 2-3 years. It is therefore an ideal plant for people who want privacy quickly. It has large medium green, oval to heart-shaped leaves and small yellow-green flowers in upright racemes. After flowering, which lasts from July to September, small blue-black berries follow. Hedera helix 'arbori compact' does well in full sun, partial shade or even shade. The plant is undemanding to the soil, is quite hardy (better than the common hedera helix), and is often used for ground cover and planting, but can also be used as a solitary.
