Characteristics
Osmanthus x burkwoodii, also called mock holly, is a large evergreen shrub with a compact, bushy, rounded shape. It is a hybrid of o.delavayi and o. decorus. The leaves are dark green, glossy, leathery, finely toothed and elliptic to ovate. This false holly blooms from April to May with a lot of small white sweet-scented flowers that are in racemes. It likes a position in full sun or partial shade, does well in almost any soil that is not too wet, requires little maintenance, is a slow grower, very hardy and occasionally small blue-black fruits follow in autumn. Osmanthus x burkwoodii is a good bee plant and coastal plant, disease resistant and air pollution tolerant
